I can get both of these at the same price.

Both are twin fan setups. The Hyper212 Evo being sold in our country is the 2fan variant.

Common logic should say that the 412 should best the 212, but I've heard so much praise for the 212 and own a 212+ on another rig. Not so many decent reviews pitting one against the other.

Which should I get?

One thing I don't like about 412slim is it uses a 15mm fan which rated at 52cfm verse 25mm one 82cfm .

Now it does use 2 of them but I think the normal 412 (single 120x25mm) would be better if price is same .

Also not sure on ram slot compatibility if you have all 4 slots used with high ram sinks "might" be issue with larger HS , though you generally can move fan up/down few mm .

The thing is with 212evo it is at a sweet spot with performance verse cost , you can go up to something like 812 you gain few c but costs and weight are doubled ,hell even water will only get you like 5-10c better depending on clock speed as 212evo starts to decline once you OC a lot (4.5ghz+ ).

PS: you didn't say if you plan to OC and what level if answer is no or very mild I go 212evo if ram clearance might be issue if you had to replace the fan on the 412slim , but I guess they sell replacements , I don't think performance will be that much different between them .
 
I plan to use this in a build I'm building for a friend, and he may want to be OCing in the near future. It will probably be a standard sized ATX motherboard so I guess clearance shouldn't be too much of an issue.

One thing is probably sure, that the 212 Evo will be less clunkier inside the case. I've probably bloodied my fingers a couple of times trying to work around an old Scythe Mugen while it was mounted.

I'm trying to stay away from water to avoid excess complications. The build will probably last for a while and the guy won't like it if his PC leaks or the pump dies a few years in.
 
even with a standard atx board, the regular 212 can cause problems. On my build I originally had a 212 and a 25mm fan would not fit with 4 sticks of tall ram. I had to order a 20mm fan to push the air and put the other fan as a pull fan.
 
I built using the 212 EVO on a standard atx ud4h Gigabyte motherboard. Four sticks of RAM and there is literally about 1mm between the fan and the ram in the fourth slot.
 
Sorry to bump an older thread, but I'm torn between the 212 EVO and the GeminII S524 also looking at the Hyper N 520. I gotta buy one quick. I have a fx6350 coming and I want to OC it a bit. Which one should I grab. The evo gets a lot of praise for the price.
