Hyper 212+ vs H100?

Hey all,

I am working on a new system build, parts arrived and was prepared to build over the course of this weekend. Due to an incident with the case I had (long story which I'll skip), I had to re-order another from newegg which I'm waiting on now.

Anyway, I got the Hyper 212+ to go with a 2500K, but this downtime has given me some time to think about going with the H100 instead? The replacement case that's on the way will be the Corsair 500r. Also the environment/ambient temps tend to run a little high here.

Any ideas, thoughts on this?

How much overclocking do you intend to do? The 212+ will be fine for 4.5 or so, but if you are looking at pushing 5.0 then you might want to consider upgrading. For moderate overclocks, though, I don't think the H100 is worth the extra money.
 
Thanks for the replies and link. I was hoping for an oc of 4.8GHz +/-, but I suppose it isn't a deal breaker if I couldn't.

That's definitely do-able with the 212+, just depends on the volts and the case cooling. I'd give it a shot first, before I spent money on a new cooler.

^This. I dont think H100 is worth the cost...they seem to be having issues with leaking from time to time.
 
I would get the H100 (unless you already have the 212) mostly because it integrates so well with your case, more gadgets are always cool, and in the long run, what does the $75 price differance matter?

if you already have the 212, dont bother
 
Yeah, I have already purchased the 212 so looks like I will just stick with it for awhile then. :)

The 212 is good for the price for sure. If you find your temps to be higher than you want, sell the 212 and give the H70 a shot.

I went from the 212 to the h70 in the 500r, just like the op has..
I only did it because the h70 was given to me.. if I had to buy it myself I would definately go with the h100, since the case is designed to hold it up top.. the h70 was a bit of a pain to install and it doesnt look that good in the case

Ah I can honestly say I didn't read close enough to see the case :p :p

Yeah if you get a good chip or end up doing a lot of overclocking on it you might check out the 100 since it will fit in your case pretty easy. H70 was pretty simple for me.
