I currently have a single monitor setup, it's an acer 22" 1680x1050 monitor and I was thinking about trying an eyefinity setup. 2 additional monitors: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009212

will cost me $260 shipped for equivalent 22" monitors which seems pretty reasonable but another monitor that's on sale is a 24" acer that is 1920x1080: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009297

The 24" are $30 more each @ $160 shipped but then I'd have to buy 3, is it really worth it to get the 1080 ones? I mean obviously it is better but would I really be missing out if I didn't upgrade to 1080 and went the cheaper route? $260 and re-using current monitor will get me an eyefinity setup for nearly half the price saving me $220. This is for a 6850 crossfire setup. Thanks for the advice, I just don't want to spend the $260 if I'm going to regret it, I've never seen the difference between 1050 and 1080 so I just wanted to check first

I love high resolution monitors, but in your situation I would stick to 1680x1050. The diff is not worth it. IMHO.

Im gonna say no. If you cant see a difference between 720 and 1080 on a TV on anything smaller than a 50" screen, youre not gonna see a difference between a 22" and 24" screen.

I actually think 1680x1050 is the sweet spot for monitors 24" and under. The lower resolution makes it easier on your GPU's and so youll get better framerates but there is no noticeable difference in image quality.

You know what really sucks, no one with 1080p TVs are getting anything 1080p to watch. Broadcast is 720p. Bluray might say 1080p, but for no good reason, movies are letter-boxed, meaning no 1080p. Consoles render games at 720p or less. PC users get 1080p on their monitors, but it's not very useful. Widescreen just isn't very good for things like web-surfing, school work, etc. A PC user might get a 1080p on game, but the game is just a port of something designed for 720p.

But, all this might not be relevant. If you want eyefinity, you best buy three matching monitors (with narrow bezels), whatever resolution they are.

Im gonna say no. You cant see the difference between a 720 and 1080 on anything smaller than a 50" screen for home theater so I doubt youll ever see a difference between 1050 and 1080 on a 24" screen.

1680x1050 is the sweet spot for screens under 24" I think. The lower resolution makes it easier on your GPU so you get better framerates but with no loss in image quality. Add to that, a 22" screen is actually taller than a 23" and almost as wide.

So my vote if youre happy with your current monitor, is to buy another 22 incher and rock on.

thanks for the replies all, I'll just stick to the 1050 then

the monitor I have isn't the exact same as the ones for $130 I listed, I actually have an AL2223W (this one but it's discontinued, wouldn't be a problem right?) but despite a little different cosmetically and the model # the specs are nearly the same. The bezel I figure my eyes will be trained to ignore it after a short time.

I really do appreciate the responses on what I should do with my situation, I actually like the advice cause 22" is a nice size anyway and I can save a few bucks. It's what I thought I wanted but wanted to make sure I wasn't going to regret it. The bezel thing I don't think will be much of an issue since primarily You still game on the center one, others are just there in case I see movement out of the corner of my eye while gaming to give me that unfair advantage
