HSF upgrades...

Ok, I have 2x CoGage True's on y SR-2 rig and love 'em.

Here is my question, I need 2 more HSF and been loking at this guy: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master...4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1281737873&sr=1-4

Seem quite good. If I get 2 of these it's the diff between $60 shipped and $85 shipped for the CoGage ones.

I looked at those myself. They only come with a single fan, and the mount looks rather challenging as a bolt-through design if that top bracket does not bolt on somehow. My Hyper N520s have a similar mounting system, and it isn't bad, but you definately need the board out of the case. It should perform close to the Cogages. I think jebo has one or two of them and they do quite well. That price is great as well, considering they are $50 + shipping at Newegg. I am sure they will be fine.

Another one that performs pretty well on a budget is this. I don't remember if I ever ran mine with the stock fan, but it was a beast with a 110 cfm Slipsteam on it...

I was under the impression they sucked at higher oc's and couldn't handle the heat compared to the TS.
Buddy of mine has one and he doesn't like it, he wants to get something beefier.
IMHO there's the TS in budget, and then there's $60+. Honestly I wouldn't bother with anything else on an oc'd i7 but that could just be me.

Wow.... umm... That kingwin looking even better.

I do like the fact I'm not going to have to ripping though the boxen that I've recently rebuilt.

The Hyper 212+ is a very good heatsink. I know people who run 3.8-4GHz overclocks on i7 rigs with them. For the price you can't go wrong.

The biggest thing I believe is the fan on these things. The big 120mm heatpipe sinks are all going to do pretty well if the fan they come with can keep up. This is pretty much what I mean. These are all within a few degrees idle and stock speed at load. The Kingwin and the Hyper 212 fall behind for overclocked loads. I'll tell you that the Kingwin with a better fan would run right with the True, and I'll bet the Hyper 212 will as well.

One thing about the Kingwin - you can't put a second fan on it. I don't know if that matters to you, but it is something else to consider.

Yeah I was going to say you could do it with zipties, but now I see there's like an airflow "wing" on the bottom of the backside that would make it impossible to run push/pull on that....that sucks.

You probably could, but it would be pretty difficult. It is very odd that you can't given that I would imagine it is cheaper to make these things symetrical.

I've zip-tied fans to crazier HSF than that

I have a Hyper 212+ and I am very happy with its performance. It kept my Phenom II X4 nice and cool under decent OC. In fact, the only reason I don't have it installed right now is that it is too tall to fit in a 4u rackmount case. I'm all rackmount now, so I will probably just sell it.

I'll make you a good deal on it if you want it. I only used it for a couple of months and I still have the box and everything that came with it. Send a PM if you're interested.
