how can i make it so that the yatel oon in my tuniq tower is running full speed? right now its only going at 1400rpms. when i had the stock tuniq fan it was hooked to the included fan controller and would go over 2000rpms on full power.

Look for settings in your BIOS or hook it directly to your power supply instead of the motherboard.

then how will i get a reading of how much RPMS the fan is running if its connected to powersupply?

It can only run at full speed when connected to the PSU. There are also adapter that allow you to hook to a power supply that feed the yellow signal cable back to the mother board for RPM monitoring. Just know that if you hook it to the PSU that fan is running at its full speed. 1,400 rpm is probably enough to keep it cool anyways. Do you know what RPM the Yate Loon is supposed to operate? Most ppl switch to these as a quieter lower rpm alternative to louder fans.

is there any software that will let me see or control fan speeds that are connected via 3 pin connectors?

Check your motherboard manufacturer's website and see if there is anything available. You can also look into getting a fan controller. Some can be just controlled by knobs and others are digital and can be controlled via a temp sensor. You have a lot of options and I suggest you read up on fan controllers. Is your CPU running hot? If nots not running hot there is no need to run your fan full blast.

well its running 42-45 idle right now. thats with artic silver 5 and tuniq tower. but its also a socket 939 =( could be why

What are your max temps? Try Core Temp and see what your getting under load in Orthos. My overclocked Opteron used to get up to 54C with a Scythe Ninja under load. If your motherboard is controlling your fan It should speed the fan up when it gets under load and hopefully prevent it from getting to hot. Try those programs and let me know your results. Also if your not overclocking you can turn on Cool and Quiet and this will help your idle temps.

i think cool n quiet it on by default? but yea its on ill check out core temp

EDIT: are core temp and orthos two differnt things?

Cool and Quiet is sometimes on by default but you have to load the driver for it in windows. Check device manager and make sure you see no yellow marks.

Core Temp

Orthos

Launch Core Temp and watch your temps as you run Orthos. Set Orthos to small fft's to stress the CPU. If you see your temps reach an unsafe area then stop Orthos. This program will bring your CPU to 100% load and show you what your max load temps are. I usually run it for 15-30 min to get an idea of max temps. Ive ran it for as long as 8 hours but never see it really get any hotter after 30 min.

ok thanks alot for your help. i forgot i have everest it shows cpu temps

i think your right...load temps didnt go over 50c and ran it for about 45 minutes
