I haven't pulled the board to visually inspect yet so I am only going by this picture. Will a HSF that requires a backing plate work with a board that looks like this on the bottom? Sure doesn't look good does it?

Sure, they'll work........... Just depends on the backplate and how its made. The Scythe backplate will fit just about any 775 board out there..............

The backplates are insulated from the board its self, I haven't seen a board yet that you couldn't get a backplate to work (one way or another).

Here is what I am playing with. It mounts with some type of clear adhesive once the paper is peeled back. However, now that I've taken a closer look at it, the backplate is raised around the perimeter creating a void space in the center of the plate. So maybe I'm worrying for nothing.

I would just becareful and put on another thin layer of insulation (take your pick)

Once you tighten everything down you will run the risk of the pins poking through and shorting out on the backing plate.

That little sticker isnt going to help much

I would suggest using double sided foam tape. You can pick it up anywhere, the automotive kind works best
