HP Virtus Tower

Very nice looking case but...... In my experience almost all Hp's that I have had/worked on have horrible cooling, and this means 1 exhaust fan and no intake. Hp uses the standard form factor for motherboards, nothing stupid like Dell. But almost all of their desktops use mATX motherboards.

but damn thats a nice looking case... i will have to ask my HP rep if he can hook that up :D

I wonder how many chimps it took at HP to design it :D Really it's taken them a LONG time to finally hire some proper designers. It looks good but needs modders to make it great. Lots of potential. Except as-is it looks like a dresser.

Most HP systems do use standard matx boards but some of the higher end ones use atx. The compaq gaming line also used atx. Mind you things like the front panel connector is a single plug that you may need to take apart to get a normal system to use. Still you might be able to upgrade the hell out of one of these if you got one. Looks pretty cool.
 
Wait until you see the HP gaming case. I am under NDA otherwise I would post pics. After Sept 5th I'll post pics of the BB. It blows this case away and most aftemarket ODM cases.

:p If you know anything about the old Voodoo Rage (amped up LianLi p65 case) and the Omen case (pc-v2000esque), you will know they are all made by Lian Li with a lot more features and aesthetic details. Outside of Soldam cases, not many ODM cases have chrome plating, anodized aluminum colors, and rubber feet.

The new HP series will own all other OEM prebuilts, and most high end cases. Think of the nice features of a Mac Pro coupled with Lian Li/Silverstone quality. It has great thermals, a great look, and incredible functionality. Luckily you can config it cheaply and just put your own internals in it, which I suspect many will do.

I am going to subscribe to this thread to see you guy's reaction when it comes out. There was a sneak preview in SF on the 28th, and the release in NY is on the 5th, and hopefully the website will be up on that day. At any rate, I will post some pics soon.;)

You know, HP cases do only have one exhaust fan and no intake. My little HP server (3.4 GHz Pentium D) at work though, actually has a 120mm exhaust fan with a fanless heatsink and a 80mm intake fan behind the HDDs with cowlings for both. It folds 500ppd and have absolutely no heat issues. For OEM mobo's that don't have overclocking capability I think one fan is more than sufficient.
 
Looks to me like a dell with copious amounts of automotive bodyfiller slathered on and smoothed over.
 
Aww come on dj_taboo, that isn't even the same model. You know I was originally was going to buy a HP Quad computer for $1200 and insert my own 8800 card in it. But I saw that photo of the inside of a HP and said maybe not.

But you know if FlimFlam says it's true I wouldn't mine buying a HP. I hope so, my AMD is running slightly slow playing Bioshock... :) And if I can upgrade the video card, and put a couple hard drives into it for less than $1200, it might be worth it.

And to stay on topic, the HP Virtus tower looks really nice I wonder if it lights up?
 
Haha!! No its not the same. But HPs all look like crap on the inside anyway. My Compaq looked worse than that when i got it. Theres only mounts for one HDD. It had a pci-e x16 slot, so thats cool. After some work, its not that bad though. I had a pic on the "Rate my Cables" thread, but its gone after [H] jumped in a time machine and took us back 3 weeks.
If what FlimFlam says is true...then awesome! I truly want a pc that looks engineered on the outside and the inside. What these Big Box PCs seem to lack is "fit-and-finish".
BTW...the new case looks too slim to hold a standard ATX psu, like present day HPs.

You guys are in for a surprise. HP volume pricing (that is, you won't find the ridiculous pricing of boutiques with this lineup) and Voodoo-esque cases are on the way. I am surprised nothing has leaked yet. Only a few more days.
 
I gotta say after 4 months of a co-op at a pretty much exclusive HP company, i gotta say i really like their business desktops and laptops. They easy to open up, swap shit out and they are rock solid. They restore disks they have are really good and don't come with a lot of bloat. And the prices are reasonable.

If they overlclocked, I'd buy em.

So now if they're doing a higher end gaming line, I think they'd come up with some solid systems

But the BB line is both CPU and GPU water cooled starting at 2500 (top end pushing only 6500).
While you will not get the number one top item with 2500 you will be getting some very solid parts, and very well build machine for that price
