HP SC08e - compatible outside HP?

I can get an HP SC08e for a reasonably good price - about 1/3rd of a new LSI 9200-8e, which by all accounts it is a rebadge of.

Does anyone know if it will be compatible or not with non-HP hardware, or is it "locked" somehow?

I intend to use it as JBOD with ZFS, like an external version of the venerable M1015.

Sc08ge should be fine in generic boxes...

You can just cross flash it to LSI firmware to give it some later firmware.

I believe they are just an external port version of the SC44Ge which I have used this way fine before.
