I am special coz I am a friggin' n00b when it comes to overclocking.. so here is my overclock.. I need advice in what I can do more w/ my system.. yes I dont want to spend more right now on a new intel processor.. (read prescott).. so I just grabbed me a new gigabyte GA-8IG1000 Rev 2 mobo. (www.gigabyte.com.tw) for more information.. here is what I did..

I just did the overclock of my 1.8A 2 days back by upgrading my motherboard from D845GBV Intel (rock solid but no overclocking -- after 2 years) to Gigabyte 8IG1000 based off D865G Intel Chipset.

This motherboard rocks. Thus far, I have overclocked it to 2.4B speeds (533 fsb -- 133 * 4) without a sweat. Rock solid performance w/ hours of testing. DDR 333 is now at 354 running in dual channel. No change for VCore, VMem or any other voltage.

I just set my AGP/PCI/SRC to 66/33/100 fixed and I am currently quite happy.

I do not know much about overclocking, all I did was set FSB to 133 and leave everything else on Auto and my system has been stable.

Yesterday I once again did an overclock of my system and took it to 2.5 GHz from 1.8A w/ (139 * 4) FSB and memory is at 370 MHz.. its amazing to see these twinMOS chips really handling stuff so well.. and I am on stock cooling and stock voltages w/ absolutely rock solid performance.. Awesome shit eh?

Next stop 2.6 GHz.. and you wont believe me my temps were 32 C full load w/ 2.4, 2.44, 2.5 GHz.. i stopped at 2.5 coz I had to play some games.. overall stuttering in NFSU surely is gone..which is a big plus and it runs silk smooth w/ 4xAA and 8xAF (no motion blur or light trails) at 40+ fps! (it used to do 25-30 before)

I have more testing to do but NOLF Games used to be around 43 fps most of the time.. but Contract JACK is at 85 all the time (vsync).. awesome shit!

I came here to ask for more tips on overclocking the Pentium 4 1.8A Processor that I have.

Surprisingly my load and idle cpu temps are the same (37 C and 28 C respectively).

Do you think there is more headroom for my P4 1.8A

Just a point to note that I have never overclocked CPU/System before (just the video card!) and am running STOCK INTEL P4 Cooling.

Vcore is @ 1.5V and I think VMem is @ 2.6 V (I hope these are the right values coz I dont remember ha!)

Sytem is in Sig!

It wouldn't be a huge shock to make it to 2.8-3.0 on it.

Besides if you haven't hit a snag yet keep going in 100Mhz increments till you get some quirks.

Keep vcore at tops around 1.65-1.70V.

Vmem can go to 2.9-3.0V.

When you have to start bumping that voltage on the vcore you may want to invest in a better heatsink for longevity of your processor.

I'd also possibly invest in some better RAM or change your divider.

EDIT - Average overclocked speed - 2611 Mhz - Overclockers.com cpu database.

that is exactly what I wanted to ask.. how do you change your divider.. I have no options (atleast that I know of) on my gigabyte motherboard.. and do you know what divider i am using.. coz I dunno yet.. its all auto for me for now.. just increasing fsb in 3 to 5 mhz increments.. gonna try 2.6 ghz tonight..

I have twinMOS cl2.5 ddr 333 ram and I think it is handling stuff quite well..

as for a heatsink.. there is where my problem lies.. I cant get any good aftermarket heatsinks in my country..

I do have some thermal paste that I can apply?

once again thanx for the help.. plz help me more!

You might try hitting Ctrl+F1 to bring up some hidden settings, since Gigabyte seems to like to hide the good stuff.
