How well do fan adapters work?

I am looking at getting the alpha pal-8150 with an 80 to 120mm fan adapter and an enermax adjustable speed 120mm fan. This is for an athlon64 3400+. I was just wondering how well they work? Are they pretty noisy from the higher flow combined with the good sized restriction?

My experiences with fan shrouds has been very negative, as in crappy :).

Would rather get a good 80mm fan

from my experience and from what ive read around at places Alpha heatsinks work better when the fan is pulling air off the sink/sucking air away from it. which would lead me to believe that your idea wouldnt work to well. you would prolly be better off to just get a good 80mm and do things that way.
