How to record sound "on demand"

We currently have a Logitech Wilife system with several cameras running quite well. For one area, I'd like to add sound. Fortunately, that's where the PC doing the recording is.

I'm curious if anyone here has setup such a thing. Video seems to be easy, but there are no off-the-shelf systems (that I can find). Even Logitech mentions it not having the capability because of state laws.

Basically, the "covered" area would be the play area for our kids. There has been many an argument and accusation over the past few years, so being able to go back and listen to what happened would be fantastic. Since they're minors, the parents have the right to record them. Even so, they would know they're being recorded, as we'd tell them. Seems Logitech is too scared to add that kind of functionality...

Ok, you lost me. What is UCCX? SPAN (to me) is a way to configure a port in a managed switch for monitoring. I think you may have misunderstood my post.

I just need something, similar to the way the Logitech system records video, to record sound as well. If sound crosses a certain threshold, the PC starts recording it. It seems to be like it would be a simple solution. Hook up a microphone, put it on top of the entertainment center, if the kids start brawling, the mic (connected to the HTPC) will pick up the sound and start recording it. When they're done arguing (sound falls back to ambient level), the recording stops. I could later review it. I just don't know what software to run....

There are two different ways to setup monitor & Recording in UCCX, one is SPAN base or silent monitor that requires SPAN to be configure in the switch and also to connect the second NIC of the server to the port of the switch that is configure as destination of the monitor session. The second one is using "Desktop Monitor" which requires a supported NIC card in the agents and Supervisor PC and also some configuration in the CDA.

Mi recomendation will be to have monitoring working first because its easy to configure and troubleshoot, once monitoring is working properly recording should work without any issue.
