My gigabyte board has some pop in crap for the socket that took me forever to figure out. Now I have no way to install the bracket included with the XP90 because the gigabyte backplate dosent accept screws, only that pop in crap. What do I do now? fit a backplate from a different motherboard to it?

How to install XP90?

Go to Thermalright's site.
Click on the XP-90. On the picture of the XP-90 there is a link labled 'Motherboard compatibility information.'
There is information on the bottom of the page regarding Gigabyte K8 motherboards (I'm assuming that is what you have.)
It says, " * Unlike other motherboard makers, Gigabyte uses a customized plastic motherboard backplate for its K8 motherboards, which is not compatible with XP-90 K8 retention bracket. Users need to remove it and replace it with a standard metal backplate before installation of Thermalright XP series heatsink. For more information regarding AMD K8 backplate please see Athlon64 processor thermal design guide (Fig. 5 & 6). And the metal backplate is also available from Thermalright here."
It provides links to order the metal backplate.

lol, can you post a pic of it installed, and what kind of screws and nuts were they?
It looks just normal except a nut sticking a little out the back, but theres enough clearance in the back for it. Im using the front plate that came with the heatsink and the stock backplate. The screw that came with it almost did the job, just needed to be a little bit longer.
