So I have a Stasis Neptune NVx1 FC WB that I have been trying to get rid of since I went 8800GTS....Until now. After finding that the 8800GT has the same mounting pattern as the G70/G71 series, I decided that I am going to keep it but before I use it, Id like to clean the plate. Its all scuffed up and scratched, whats the best way to make it all shiny and such? Here is a pic of the bottom:

If it is actually scratched you should lap the bottom. Do a forum search there are plenty of guides. If it is just tarnished you can use some ketchup, just clean up the residue afterwards.
 
Yeah, I'd lap that block... or stick it on and don't worry. The impact will be minute I'm sure.
 
If he laps it, he's gotta lap every contact point perfectly, right? 'Cause if he doesn't, he's going to get bad contact if he changes the level of the contacts too much.
 
I never touched a full block myself (getting one on my way) but I think the contact surfaces is not the same height so lapping would prove to be very challenging. I suggest you just clean it with ketchup then rinse it thoroughly with distilled water then mount it. It's not that critical to have a perfect surface and from what I see, it's actually very good.

 
Yeah, I really don't want to lap it. Its just some basic scuffs and the memory pads are a little scratched, but I'm not worried about them. I just want to clean up the bottom a bit. The main contact point for the core isn't bad at all. Its pristine. Its the rest of the block that Id like to make shinier. The lapping job on this is well, you know Stasis...damn near perfect.


Edit: and why ketchup? I never heard of that before! Heh. Any preference: Heinz or Hunts? Red or the infamous Green? :p
 
Yeah, memory chips doesn't require perfect cooling, just enough contact since they don't get as hot as the core. Just look at those who slap a MCW60 block with ramsinks and still get a working card, knowing the ramsinks doesn't dissipate heat better than a full cover block ;)

 
What should I use to clean the block with the ketchup? A rag? lint-free cloth? paper towel (i highly doubt)?

BTW, I love FC blocks...theyre just hard as hell to sell when a new gen of cards come out and they are incompatible with them :p
 
I mean what should i put the ketchup on? what kind of material to wipe the ketchup on the block with?
 
Fingers? That's what I do :p. Then, just run it under cold tapwater and dry fully with a towel.
 
Doesn't look like it needs lapped, clean it with anything that doesn't scratch it.

Should be able to use alcohol and a rag or lint free cloth to get it to a nice shine.

As long as you get the gunk off of it, the minor scratches probably won't matter in performance as long as you apply enough TIM.
