Athlon XP 3000+ 400mhz FSB
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
1 Gig Corsair TwinX PC3200 in Dual Channel
2x WD SE 80gig HDDs
ATI Radeon 9800
M-Audio Revolution 7.1
Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM
Lite-On 52x32x52x CD-RW

I've got $500 or to upgrade with, I just wanted to see what you all thought.

I dunno if I wanna go with a whole new Mobo CPU combo right now, I'm thinking these will be good for another year. I was thinking about a couple of Raptors in RAID 0 might be nice. I'm gonna be OC'ing this thing here soon, I had it OC'd, but clocked it down. But I have no problems turning it back up. It does 3400+ pretty nicely. Any advice guys? I'm open to ANY advice on what you think would help me out. I'm gonna be running XP Pro btw.
 
Upgrade your bank account, stock portfolio or perhaps your house.

Your computer is just fine, unless you need more harddrive space.

edit:
Or a DVD burner, or a new printer, or a TV tuner card, or some other addition to the computer. But those really aren't upgrades, but rather additions.

The point point is that upgrades should be motivated by the need to do so, rather than the existance of money.
 
Is that 9800 a Pro? or a NP?

If it is a NonPro... sell it for about 100 and get a 9800Pro.


Still... that isn't a necessary upgrade.




I guess it all comes down to saving it. :p
 
im glad im broke or i would be sh*t out of luck with my comp. :D. id say your at the point where you sell me your ram for 100$ and then you upgrade that to pc3500 or more, gl. :)
 
A nice set of 7.1 speakers or a DVDRW? Everything looks pretty good so I can't really see why you need a major upgrade now
 
A couple of 36GB raptors would get a good choice. What kind of speakers do you have? Get you a good 5.1 setup if you dont have some already. The Logitech Z-5300's are nice and their only $140 at Newegg. 7.1 speakers are pretty pointless if you ask me. 5.1 are plenty.

What kind of cooling do you have on your system? You could get new heatsink/fan for your CPU and GPU and a new NB cooler. Maybe some new case fans and a sexy case?

You could get an Athlon XP mobile and a new motherboard to experiment with.

You could grab one of the new video cards here in the next couple of months. I would suggest the 6800 ultra if you have the PSU requirements met. You need a good 400w PSU for them. Otherwise get the X800XT or Pro.

Intel scrapped the Teja's and is pushing full steam ahead for the new dual core CPU's based off of their Pentium M mobile chips. Their going to be damn fast and are suppost to be out around second quarter 2005. I'm not buying a new cpu/mobo till then.
 
Currently, I have no 5.1 speaker :p What I have been using is my stereo's Aux port. I could use an upgrade there. I was also thinking, since I'm at college, maybe I should get myself a 17" flat screen to replace my current 17" CRT. I went an entire year with no desk space. Anybody know anythign I should look for in an LCD monitor?

Yea if your in college you should think about getting an LCD. There just isn't room for large CRT's on those little desks. I would get a nice 17" with good response time. You want with at least a 16ms response time. Try MonitorsDirect.com. They have a couple LCD's on sale, or at least they did, that are good. One is by Planar i believe.

I'm in college but i dont stay in the dorms and i have a fairly large desk so i prefer a nice CRT over an LCD.
