I'm probably going to upgrade to i7 soon and want to revisit my current water cooling and see how I can make it work with the i7.

Right now I have a Q550 and a 4870x2 on 1x Swiftech 120.3 rad. I figure I probably can't pull this off with an OCed i7. The question becomes, do I use a stackable Swiftech MCR and just stack it or take the CPU out of the loop, put it on air cooling (or maybe corsair's H50....) and keep only the 4870x2 on the 120.3 rad?

I'm also switching cases to a Corsair Obsidian 800D (I would love to do the double rad mod that Mr. Armageddon did but I need those bottom HDD's unfortunately.)

Any tips or advice?
 
Another single 120mm radiator, somewhere in your loop, coupled with your swiftech rad should deal with a moderately clocked 4870X2 and your i7... Depending on your fans of course. If you can fit the H50, you can probably fit a BIP120 somewhere in there too.

Of course, stacking your rads would net you a much larger benefit as well - and I recommend that route over the above.

what u need to do is get a 2x120 rad and cool the 4870x2 in another loop, i'm no fan stacking rads if not done properly you lose performance and overall you will need more CFM for stacked rads to equal the same coolng power of the same rads configured separatly, the call is yours, but you are looking to something like fan/rad/fan/rad to be feasable, rad/fan/rad gives u actually less performance than just fan/rad of course you can mount the rad outside.

I would go a seperate 120.2 loop but theres just no space unless I mount it outside. Which I don't want to do. I've thought about a single 120.1 high quality rad like an XSPC rad but I'm not sure it could handle either the OCed i7 or the 4870x2.

With a 48m fan - I beg to differ.

My setup is: Rad | Fan | Rad | Fan. I currently have the rightmost (25mm) fans turned off. I get performance that's only a few percent away from having both banks on. All I'm running are 3 48mm 2000rpm fans, at around 5v.
