ok, i just started to overclock my vid card. its an nvidia geforce fx5500 pci card. no, not pci-e, just pci. please, dont laugh. anyhow, the stock core frequency is 270mhz, and ive got it to 290 right now. the stock memory clock frequency is 400mhz, and i have it to 420. its running stable no problems. a few questions: how much more might i be able to do without frying the card and, is my card gonna last long now that its overclocked? how long might it last?. please reply asap. thank you very much!

you won't fry it... just keeping going up slowly... the gpu or ram one at a time.. not both!
then when u see artifacts or lock-ups.... bump it down a bit and start on the gpu or ram and do the same thing..

You should do some research and read an OCing guide. Here is a quick one.
The best thing you can do to find the cards limits is pick an application to test for artifacting (little triagles on the screen.) When I had a FX5200 PCI and was OCing it I used Unreal Tournament 2003 to test for artifacting. Basically up the core and RAM clocks (1 at a time!) in increments of 5-10 MHz until you see artifacting (UT2003 works well b/c the intro Nvidia screen is 3D and shows artifacting.) When the card displays artifacts, back down the OC (on either RAM or Core, whichever you are testing) by about 10-15MHz. Then begin to OC the other (either RAM or Core.)
Usually OCing the CORE will give you more FPS, just be careful and you won't have any problems. Every card is different so test yours and have fun!
