How much power do I need?

Well I tried to use the calculators that are found in the sticky but I one if them didn't work, the other one was really old and didn't have up to date parts. Ok so recently I got a new hard drive and since them occasionally my computer would restart, under what appeared to be heavy load, there wasn't any blue screen or anything, just a click and it would restart. Here are my specs:

ABIT NF-7S
Athlon XP 3200+
1gb DDR400 OCZ
6800GT
1 WD 120gb
1 Maxtor 120gb
1 Seagate 320gb
NEC DVD-RW
and about 4 fans

My power supply is an older 300W PSU that I got with the case, it's decent quality, but I don't think it can handle it anymore. I was looking at PC Power and Coolings power supplies, and I was hoping the Silencer 360 would be enough, since that already is quite expensive. I will probably be upgrading to an X2 3800+ in the near future so I would like to get a power supply that could hand that.

So the question is, will a PC Power and Cooling Silencer 360 provide enough power for my current system and an upgrade to a X2 3800+?

Thanks in advance.

Did you follow the instructions in the sticky on how to get and use updated numbers?

I'm not sure which sticky you mean, but in this one , "takaman's Power Supply Calculator" seems to be down, but the instructions appear to be for it, and the Zippy one is kind of wierd, I'm not sure how to use it.

The zippy one is an exact replica of takaman. The instructions are the same for both. You select the relevant components or you add your own if they aren't there by inputing the amp's per rail as documented in the sticky or for optical drives etc on the drive.

At any rate the silencer 360 would be fine.

Alright, sorry about that, thanks though!

What you have should work fine.

I have a system very similiar:
Athlon XP 3200+
Radeon 9800 Pro
2x 1 GB sticks of RAM
2x 7200 RPM HDD's
2x DVD burners

Heres what my system actually pulls as measured by a meter on the AC input:
180 watts AC @ idle, which is about 125 watts from the PSU.
250 watts AC @ 100%, about 175 watts from the PSU.

My 430 watt PSU doesn't even come close to its capacity with a measly 175 watts max load :)

The 6800 draws a good amount of power, and a generic 300W maybe stuggled by it. A 400W unit would be good, and leave plenty of room for upgrades. If your on a budget then I recommend Fortron or XCilio.

Although I personally use an Antec 550 I have built systems with the aforementioned xclio 450bl which newegg usually has for $40-45 and it is a rock soild dual 12v PSU. Not to mention it's [H] recommended. It truly is the best PSU out there for less than $75

Yeah I think I might have to go with Xclio 450bl especially at that price, I was originally planning on the PC Power and Cooling, but it's a little too expensive for me...
