How much performance are we talking about?

Hello, I'm just wondering how much perfomance you gain from let's say overclocking an i5 2500k to 4,5Ghz compared to stock settings? Is it like a 10fps gain in games or what? Yep, I'm new to this :p
 
Too hard to say as simply as that - it depends on what the bottleneck in the system is and how efficiently the CPU is being used. But it would be noticeable, since that is a pretty significant overclock.

But they OC so well you might as well just go for it.
 
With a top-end tri or quad SLI or crossfire system running nvsurround or eyefinity, you might see 10-20 FPS gains or more, depending on the game. With regular SLI or crossfire or lower, you're unlikely to see any difference besides in CPU bound games. And the difference most likely will be on the order of 5 FPS or less. Once again, this depends on the game. If it is a console port game or an emulator (like GTA IV), then the increase in FPS may be up to 10 or more.
