with brand name ram and generic ram?
does it run faster? how much of a performance difference is there?
im guessing they are better for overclocking?

Brand name RAM is usually better for overclocking, typically offers options for lower timings, and has a much better chance of not being DOA when you buy it....or dying later on. If the memory ever does die, you'll have a much better chance of getting an RMA with a good brand than some cheapy house brand.

I have nothing to add...

Like has already been stated Brand name RAM is alot better for overclocking. The PCB's are also higher quality and cause less errors. RAM and PSU's are extremely important components so i wouldn't suggest anyone buying anything generic with ither one unless you want to have problems down the road. Brand name RAM also has tighter timings most of the time which is very important.

The brands i suggest for being the best are Mushkin, Corsair, and Kingston.

Works on the same principal as everything else branded vs. generic or cheap. Would you rather have a Ford Fiesta or a Dodge Viper? The Viper will give you better performance, albeit at a higher price. Just had to add the prerequisite car analogy. ;)
