Whelp here I was all happy as punch a couple months ago [some other thread here lol] and posted about my concerns of my X800 XT PE, well it turns out it was a REAL XT PE, but a REAL DEAD XT PE. Last Thursday I had to reboot for some reason or other [oh yah was tweaking my new cpu, went from a 3.0 @ 3.4 Northwood to a 3.4 @ 3.9 [does 4.0 but no need] Prescott [man I love this chip] but anyway, after a couple reboots testing memory timing and what not, I got that horrid want to puke noise from my box. only too look up and see the most horrid sight. BIG RED FLASHING LETTERS saying [Warning, your video card is not plugged in] or something to that nature.

I freaked, I mean I know ATI has great RMA policies and all but here are my 2 big worries!

1: Even ATI doesn't have any PE's to replace it with.
2: See 1.

They received the card today via FedEx, now I just get to sit and wait for SOME response, you know something along the lines of "We're sorry Mr. TheQuestor" "You card is on backorder, we expect to ship December 13". Can you imagine having to go from well lets see, I've always had top of the line gpu's so this is my 1st time having to deal with the speeds of a 9600aiw. Fine capture/TV card, but my god people actually play games with this kind of card? The 9200 and 9000aiw I have here are equally as horrid. My Xbox is going to get its biggest workout of its life I guess. As I wait and wait and wait for my poor old vid card to come home to me :(.

P.S. as a side note, CostCentral just got in a shipment of 85 Hauppauge PVR-150-MCE's so if you were like me and waiting forever for one of these suckers too, head on over before they are all gone.

If it happened while you were overclocking I'd say your power supply choked and maybe killed your card. I dunno. Sux dude. :(
 
Well just incase someone at ati might read this I would have to deny both of those statements as then it might kill any chance at a warrantee. I could not imagine having to eat 560 buck on a card, OUCH.


BTW I'm REALLY happy with my new X-Connect Ultra 500watt ATX Power Supply.

jesus christ... theyre $560??!?! i envy all you people with money to burn.
 
Its not as bad as you make it sound.

A: they are going for 700+ now if you can find them.
B: I never hold on to a card for more then a year, that way I am able to resell it for "something" and then upgrading to the next part doesn't hurt quite so bad. Of the last 3D 10 video cards I have purchased for myself, only "1" was under $500. And that was my 9800pro which was 399 at the time.

Buy it for 500 sell it for 200 and buy the next for 300.

Its better then buying a new 500 card every 6 months or so for FULL price. That WOULD be insane.
 
Heh, i hope my x800 pro never dies, because if it does, thats it =O no warranty. Let's see what ive done to this poor thing, volt mod, attempted hard pipe mod, couple of knife scratches on the core =O, um different heatsink, different thermal paste. hehe list goes on
 
I feel for you, I really do! I don't know what I would do if mine bit the bullet. Go back to my 32mb card how dreadfull!
 
I really am not so bummed that it died. I'm bummed that I can't play my machine for week(s). I just have this big fear that ATI can not even deliver me a replacement. Or worse. "We're sorry Mr. Thequestor" We will have to send you a non pe as a replacement, since nobody on the bloody planet has a PE in stock.

When I RMA'd my videocard I got no response whatsoever from ATi, sent it in, little over a week later FedEX was at my door, no email or call saying "we recieved/sent". Don't expect any contact from them. Not saying that it is bad RMA or techsupport though, they have been good.
 
If my PE died I still have a 9700 to fall back on, I'm waiting to hear about the ETA of your PE, keep us informed.
 
Definately keep us informed. I bought a X800XT PE from BestBuy (Didnt buy the PSP)so if it were to ever die, I would have to go through ATi.
 
Update:

I just got off the phone with ATI [ok a few hours ago but it sounded better the other way] and after a lengthy conversation I found that my card will be fixed or replaced but it is going to take an additional 2 weeks before I get it back.

The phone guy said the following:
"All cards sent to New York have to then be shipped over the border to Canada. And this takes about 10 days. Once it gets to the plant in Canada it takes an additional 10 days for turnaround."

So we are talking nearly 3 weeks without my card.

The funny thing to me was he kept asking me how I actually GOT one of these cards, and especially 2 months ago.

I can remember at least 3 times him asking me "how did you get this?"
And he said the reason for the concern is they JUST 2 WEEKS ago released them to vars and soon to be in retail chains.

2 freaking weeks ago. They only announced this card what, 5 months ago. [inject sarcasm here] and he was so concerned that he put me on hold to find out if this card was even real.

About 3 or so minutes later he gets back on and said, "yes it looks to be one of ours and how did you get this?"

Guess the moral is, take the extra 20 bux or what ever and pay the import/export fees for the card and ship it right to Canada. Saves you a couple weeks downtime.

Oh man, 20 days, and I thought waiting a week to actually find a store with an X800pro in stock was bad. *Pats Back* just think of how happy you will be when you get it back.
I couldnt imagine losing my card, ALL I do is play compy games, I have a PS2 and Gamcube but those sit in my basement collecting dust.
I come from one of those families that thinks a computer is used strictly for homework and word processing use ONLY, so before I got my computer the best computer we had in our house was a Gateway 2000 and not one of the new ones, one of the old Pentium 2 233MHZ ones. So if my video card were to crash I would have to go to the gateway-generic 4MB VGA Card, which was "The ultimate gaming experience" when we bought it.

And I dont see why ATI is freakin out because you actually had one, I at first figured the guy might have actually been a gamer himself and was astonished that you actually found one in stock at a store, as far as the 2 weeks goes, thats not right, the CUSA next to my house has had them in for a month or so. That doesnt make any sense. :confused:
It's just like with the 6800Ultras, My friend ordered a FalconNW (as much as I told him to build one custom :rolleyes: ) and after 3 months of waiting they are still giving him the excuse that they havent got the Ultra for it yet, which I personally know is bullsh*t becuase I saw them at the same CUSA over a month ago as well. What is it with these companies and ship dates?
 
Man. Same problem here with my BBA X800 XT PE. Booted last night to that nice red error. I just got it about 2 and a half weeks ago, so the guy I bought it from contacted Bestbuy Biz (how he got it for me) and they are sending a call tag to pick this card up and will send me a new one. However I had no problems getting an RMA opened directly with ATI.

Well in a way I knew where he was coming from and it just kept making me laugh. because in truth 2 months ago [or when ever I got it, posted about it in one of the other forums so I guess if I were not as lazy as I am I would post the link] [Bah had to do it (08-05-2004, 08:00 PM) is the post date] [good god that was like "3" months ago, but anyway] NOBODY had them ;) It was a complete FLUKE that I got one. And I really was kind of amazed since ATI hadn't even been able to fill “their” pre-orders, let alone to any var. And now to see some places that have the reference cards [Gigabyte, Sapphire, etc] selling for $700 ish scares the bahgeebees [hooked on phonics worked for me] out of me.

Omg just did a search and seems I found a place [many have heard of allstarshop] selling them for 799 shipping 1 to 2 business days. I almost wish FedEx lost my package; I had it insured for 750 lol. I'd have received the claim and bought a new one faster then getting mine repaired or placed. To be honest I could care less if the repair instead replace. Just get it to me yesterday!


Today I practiced nesting as many brackets into once sentence as humanly possible. Day good.

I REALLY hope this is not some trend here for the 1st gen xtpe's. I say that not knowing anything about anything, but it seems to me that; ATI did release a batch of cards to the general masses, but for like 2 months after we got our cards, they were so scarce as to believe they were a vapor paper release, and just NOW we are seeing them in retail chains, that it lends me to think there was a high failure rate on the 1st batch and they had to fix something fast.

I admit to using ATI's own little overclocker thing but that should not have killed the card. My AGP/PCI were locked at 66/33 and default voltages. The card seems to come clocked UNDER the rated 525 MHz. I seem to remember it taking it from what it says was 520 MHz and bumped it to a whopping 526 MHz. But that was another issue. Anyway I just hope that all of us "just have to have it at no cost people" weren't given a card that needed to do a little more baking before it was done. Guess in the next 2 weeks or so, when I get my monster back [oh how I feel the pain of people who aren't quite as off in the head as us folk who plop down 550[ish] for a card every year[ish]]. I'll just how long THIS one lasts. And if it makes it more then 3 months it's a score!
