How is this video card?

Hi,

I'm using the below BioStar motherboard which as Onboard Video Chipset: ATI Radeon HD 3300.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138130&Tpk=13-138-130

However, want to get something that doesn't cost too much and take load off CPU.
Won't be doing gaming, just encoding work which uses CPU. So don't want extra load on it.
The below video cards looks to be the best card (with fan and HDMI) in this price range.
Is this the "best" buy in this price range or anything else I should look at?

Be sure to read up on GPU encoding to see if its good enough.
It may be faster but it has issues.

If it was worth using for converting my Blu Ray films, I would be using it.

Sigh, what do you want to take the load off the CPU with, if not the GPU?
Also why are you looking to offload processing from the CPU?

Of course the GPU takes load off of the CPU. And I never said I was encoding using the GPU, but the CPU.
And like I said, I'm looking to take load off the CPU because the encoder I'm using uses the CPU, not the GPU.

I didnt say you were encoding with a GPU , but I saw that is what you are considering so explained something you should be aware of.
If you arent considering the GPU to offload the processing, then why specifically mention it?
What else do you think the processing can be offloaded to?

If you are using a program that uses the CPU only, its not going to run on anything else, so why not get more CPU cores or just encode on one core if you cant have more than 2 cores?

onboard graphics gpu is still a GPU and I am not sure you will see a difference

upgrade processor if possible I would think

I'm not using GPU encoding. Sigh, I'll just pick one out.

That's why I asked you what you wanted to do, you said encode video, hence why I suggested what I did ;)

So what EXACTLY are you wanting to do, you haven't been very clear.

There is ZERO CPU overhead with an integrated GPU. You get some memory overhead, but the hit is tiny, especially with something cache-friendly like video encoding. Further, since your Radeon HD 3300 is fully capable of accelerating decode, you won't see much better decode performance with an upgrade.

You will see virtually no improvement using a discrete GPU, especially since you don't want to use it for encode acceleration. Your money would be best spent on a beefy quad-core CPU.
