How important are clean installs after you've just upgraded your motherboard, processor and video card? All use different driver sets and are totally different platforms as well. For example the video card was a 9800 Pro and now it's 2 7800 GTX's, the motherboard was a Gigabye 754 socket and now is a 939 Asus board. The processor was an Athlon 64 3000+ 754 pin and now it's a Athlon 64 4000.

How important would a clean install be?

You can get away without a clean install, provided you prepare properly.. You will almost certainly have to reactivate windows though.. As already stated by others a clean install would prolly be better.. It's nice to do a reinstall every now and again to get rid of "slow bloat" that seems to happen to the OS over time anyway..

like said above a clean install never hurts, windows will degrade over time so refreshing it every now and then is a healthy thing

In an upgrade like that, I always do a clean install. In my mind, new hardware deserves a new OS install. Woot for another HP Lightscribe burner!
