Hello,

In a few weeks i will be buying me a raptor x 74gb 10,000rpm HD but the problem is that I don't want to erase the C: drive to install windows vista on the raptor x because of activation. :(

What i would like to do is isntall it as a D: drive and just install the games there but i don't know how fast the games will run. Will the games run as if the drive would've been a C: drive with windows in it?

Yes, it will be just as fast if not faster, it's better to keep games and backups separated from the Windows drive anyway. As for your choice on the Raptor X, it's not worth the extra money, all it has is the window but you won't ever see it, there is absolutely no performance difference between the Raptor X and the regular Raptor, I've got a Raptor 74GB for sale in my for sale thread for $100 if you're interested. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1161946

Yes, but you are selling the old, WD740GD raptor, which is quite a bit slower than the WD740ADFD raptor that the OP is most likely going to buy, if he buys a new drive now. I would not spend that amount of money on the last gen used raptor seeing how the ADFD has been for sale for ~$100 at times already.

on topic:
By running the raptor as the D: drive and installing your games on there, you will likely be able to load any OS files requires (DX) in parallel with you game files.

Games won't *play* any faster. They might load faster though.
