Are you planing to play games? What video card you will be using? Why don't you get Abit or Asus or MSI or motherboard instead?

im getting this motherboard....because its cheap and its has integrated GeForce4 MX which will be fine if he plans to play any games.....quality wont be important to him

get the WD800JB - 8mb cache is gonna mean a lot, especially for 8 extra bucks.

Well MX wont play many games because its way too slow. I would suggest him to get at least geforce 4 ti 4200. Can you tell me some of the games he is going to play?

He has a copy of windows.....any other suggestions......some very light gaming will be done

suggestions?

My friends MX 440 plays call of duty just fine and dandy at high settings. I wouldn't worry about it to much for now. I just bought one myself for a lan box. He can always upgrade later if he wants. If it's only indeed "light" gaming, which generally means he won't be playing the latest and greatest flashy shooters, then the mx will be more than fine.

Hell, the mx will even handle battlefield just fine ( don't argue, same box that runs call of duty also runs battlefield just fine). However, if he wants to play battlefield, he might want to invest in another 256 stick of ram. It can get pretty chuggy on 256. However, it will run just fine.

For 90% of the games on the market i imagine the gf4 igp should run them ok. For the other 10% you may be stuck with lower settings and 640 or 800 rez. For practically free you cant argue, and sure kicks the snot out of all IGP except ati's. From what ive seen its about 80% of the performance of a real gf4, which isnt all that bad.

Looks like a decent system for the price.

definitely spend the extra money to get the 8meg cache driver version of the hard drive

also, get the retail box version of the combo drive, that will also have 8 meg cache on it
