How does the display frequency affect the display, specially in gaming. Dell U2410, is an IPS Display which is consider to be one of the best.

Imagine Dell launches a 24 inch display having a resolution of 1920 X 1200 with a maximum frequency of 120MHz, will this kind of display require a more powerful card than today's generation cards? Will it make a whole lot difference in gaming?

1920x1200@120hz? Yes, please. :)

Higher refresh rates make for a noticable difference in smoothness, especially in fast-paced games.

Thats the short answer. For the complicated version, to quote one of my favorite articles:

One of the largest benefits to games that don't inherently carry a lot of input lag is refresh rate. A real 120Hz refresh rate can significantly benefit input lag especially in twitch shooters. While that impact would be less in games where the framerate can't keep up, the hail of additional frames that can be incurred between the computer and the monitor will still be significantly impacted. Additionally, vsync (even in the worst case) is much cheaper on a high refresh rate monitor. Triple buffering (or even 1 frame flip queues with performance lower than refresh) and 120Hz monitors are a match made in heaven.

I think he might be talking about DVI frequency? in which case, no it does not matter don't worry about it

otherwise, read the anand link, and no what anand is talking about is NOT the same as "120hz HDTVs" or "240hz HDTVs"
