what i mean is i know some ppl dont ONLY use their video cards to paly games.......what else do ppl use them for and how does it help that?

u guys got it all wrong, you gotta go videocard walking, then the girls see it and they're all "omg it's so cuuuuute! that hsf you got just makes him so adorable" then otu of nowhere BAM videocard lands you some sekz

I often bring my video card to remote islands and we get fed grapes from really beautiful women wearing white robes.

way to help the guy.

I can't answer the question but I do know workstations use them for CAD, web design and otther power hungry tasks like video editing. What exactly the video card does with respects to infrastructure and render option, I do not know.

well considering the fact that you wouldnt be able to see anything on the screen without a video card, i think that even people who dont play games use video cards. im just giving you shit and i know what youre trying to say.

people who dont game also buy top of the line video cards to do drafting, intensive graphics applications (adobe), and for HTPCs to watch movies. it also helps people who like to play graphically intense porn games or to render movies in high resolutions that require high detail.

Photoshop is all CPU work just to let you know.

People who buy cards for CAD work will buy the workstation cards like the ATi FireGL line-up, nVidia Quadro line-up, or the best for quality, the Matrox series cards.

These cards are supposed to have superior image quality and accuracy, but these mean nothing without a high quality and configured display.

you would be amazed at how much a video card helps in things like 3d animation
not watching it but the actual rendering, just for grins when I worked for DNA we swapped a geforce3 for an oxygen card in one of the render farm machines. It was great to see the geforce beat the oxygen card but awful when we realized how much money they coulda saved. oh ya we were using lightwave.

i stand corrected. thanks for the info! what you said about the display is true though...

The colour your eyes percieve is the only thing that matters in Photoshop, the rest is CPU, RAM, and a fast HDD for Writing/Swapping.

I use mine to heat my apartment in the winter. (no shens)

to be honest I don't even remember what cards they were, They were the top of the line when purchased and that was probably like 3 months before the geforce 3 came out.
it was also friggin huge longest video card I ever say and I have seen some hella long workstation cards.

I only installed stuff I wasn't in charge of ordering, we just plugged in the geforce one night after work just to prove our boss was an idiot.
