Do you just install your games on it only? Or do you have to install windows on it too?

I was thinking you just install the game you want on the SSD / programs only and they load faster?
 
I have 2 SSD's. 128gb for OS and most apps and a 256gb for games and my adobe suite.

If its big enough, you can do the OS, apps, and your select games on it.

128GB. Would that be enough? windows 7 proffesional, league of legends, world of warcraft. then basic applications like skype and google chrome?
 
my 120GB ssd (which is 111GB in reality) has all of what you listed (well SWtOR which is 20+GB instead of WoW so pretty equal in terms of size) plus a steam game or 2 and a WHOLE bunch of stuff i never really use on a regular basis on a 1.5 year old install of windows 7 and it has 33GB of free space on it at this moment
 
I would go with a 256gb as the 128gb to me is really to small. I really thought that 128 was going to be enough, I was wrong!

It's enough if you only keep basic apps and games that you are currently playing. You can hoard your stuff on a HDD.

I'm keeping my main stuff like Skype/PS/Office/Chrome/Visual Studio/Video Vegas on my 128gb SSD. Windows 7 is there as well. Then I have Steam, on which I currently only have CSGO installed cause I don't play anything else. Add League of Legends and I'm on around 50% space used. That means I have pleanty of space to install temporary games that I want to play, and then uninstall once I'm done with them.

Long term data like music and torrents etc go on my 1tb HDD

That being said, of course if you get 256 you can be a bit more relaxed with your space usage and not have to count bits as much. If you can afford it, that might be worth the extra money. I don't really know if SSD's will stay in the current price range for a long time or can we predict a drop in the future? If the latter, then it might be wise to wait for that and just get a 128gb one for the time being.

As a more general answer, SSD is basically exactly like a HDD in that it can store your files - so you can install windows or not, just like you can with a HDD. The difference being that, as the name suggests, a solid state drive has no moving parts, and as such is a lot faster and quieter.

I would rather have the programs I use alot stored on the SSD and just use the spinners for storage and backups. Sucks to have all that speed on some programs and not on the others. :)
 
An SSD is seen to your computer the same as any other harddrive your used to having.

True, but if you think about it, it sucks that we don't have all these great, way faster pc components that haven't been announced or released yet. It sucks! I want a Sata 5 SSD now!

I am happy with the current speed. :D
I dont buy the latest and greatest anyways, since I am still on a 2500K and 5850. ;)

Nice! Those HD5850s had a pretty amazing life. Old but still a great card.
