Hello all~

I recently got my two LCDs and enjoy them really, but got question:

How to clean your LCD?

I guess there are many products involved in this maintainance, but not sure which one works better over which. Back in CRT days, car glass cleanup spray was working great but I don't think I am going to use it for sure.. :)

I would never use a chemical on CRT or LCD. Can ruin any coating that might be on the screen. There are "special" products out there but personally I don't trust them, and nothing really works better for me then a microfiber cloth and if need be a damp one.

edit: Just realized you meant keeping it away. Answer: Nothing

You can't keep dust away from a monitor, or anything else for that matter.. well, unless you have some sort of NASA cleanroom.

What I use to clean my LCD screen is a microfiber towel and monitor wipes. To clean off the casing of it, I use a dust rag. ;)

Oops, I think I had to be clear about that. I was asking how to clean up after, not keep away from dust.. :)
CRT I used with auto glass cleaning spray was 50 bucks CRT I got from used store... Nothing I was afraid I guess.. LOL

Same excuse... I meant how to clean up after dust settle on LCD not prevent dust off the LCD.. :)
I was Fry's the other day, they sell some LCD cleaning stuff, and they were not so cheap.. and I was wondering it is really worth or do its job...

So I guess, for LCD, nothing but microfiber cloth... right? Any brand you guys suggest? Since it is not rush, I may digg over internet retailer to save some bucks!
;)

I use that foaming windex on a paper towel. Its no big deal. I used to be picky about it until I had my monitor knocked over by cats a couple times. (before you say anything, its not their fault- I used to let them sleep on top of my big CRT's. They just didn't realize they can't fit up there anymore :) ) One time the screen itself landed right on my coffee cup an then on the ground. Not a bit of damage to the screen or case. So I realized those screens are not easily dmaged and can stand up to a paper towel.

Windex on a paper towel? LOL, that has to be the very worst combination you can possibly put on a LCD screen besides steel wool and gasoline. I truly hope you are not serious. Windex contains ammonia and other harsh chemicals that damage the LCD outer screen coating later, and the paper towels have a very harsh texture on the micro level that will dull and scratch your LCD over time.

I quickly dampen a baby face-cloth with tap water. Then, I dab rubbing alcohol onto the cloth too. The mixture feels almost dry, but i know its wet. Then I clean up to down, and left to right(don't scrub in circles). Then, dry it off with a soft-cotton tea towel. It has worked great over the years on various LCD's.

I wouldn't use any solvent on an LCD since they are plastic and quite thin at that.

I have a 3M microfiber towel I got from my University's store.. was about 3$, cheap, works great. :)

Microfiber cloth and cheap non-alcohol lcd cleaner spray....can be found at any office supply/electronics retailer.
