I have a ViewSonice VA520 LCD monitor

I want to take it apart so I can paint the faceplate black, take off the logo and bondo that hole etc... I tried to take all the screws off the back and tug and pull the face and back off in every direction but nothing will come off. Any ideas?

I decided to put it in this forum because it has to do a little with modding, If it should be in the Displays forum, so be it!

Here are some pics:

Ok I got my answer from another forum. SOmeone suggested a screwedriver, but the screwedriver had some abrasions on it, so I took the stainless steel knife from the kitchen

Perfect!

thanks for your help Smirabi! from OCforums

<EDIT> I should read all the posts before I answer... I guess he already figured it out. Argh </EDIT>

It sounds like on of those things that are pretty much impossible to figure out without holding it ourselves. Just look for little plastic tabs that need to be bent back for the front cover to come off... dont be afraid to use some mild force. If all else fails bust out the chainsaw and gently score the seams.

I think you should be careful in doing so. I think there are some plates in the monitor that hold charges for some time and you can get badly shocked even if it isn't plugged in. Probably why you're having trouble getting the thing apart...? ;)

I got it off (as you can see from the pics)

All the screws for the face plate are on the outside. I was wondering if there was a rectifier in this thing, but I don't think there is.
I think I'll be pretty safe...

it's an LCD monitor, it doesnt store the same kind of charges a CRT would. though it does have capacitators (you can see in the pics) compared to the ones on a CRT, they're micro.

if you do get shocked, it wont really be a big deal.
