How do I start up a computer w/o a case?

I have the components (cpu, ram, psu, onboard vid), but no case. How do I get a signal to the motherboard to tell it to power up? I just want to test if I can get into the bios and see if the cpu I have is working or not.

I use a screwdriver. just find the two pins that you would connect to your case button, and make contact between both.

Jumping spark, but yes it does work.

I had a Lian-Li and a Addtronics case that allowed me to remove their power buttons, so I usually removed them from their respective enclosures and used that. Or you could make your own by getting a momentary switch online, some wire and connectors etc.

set everything up...mobo, CPU with properly installed HSF, RAM, Video....

just place the mobo on a cardboard box, like the box the mobo came in

place the PSU next to the mobo and plug in all the power plugs into mobo...

if you have a case switch, just plug that into the 2-pin POWER UP on the mobo...and press the button and everything should power up as it would in a case.

I always test my rigs this way before i put it into my case. you can find additional details some where floating around because I've a seen a very detailed picture tutorial on it.

...I never tried the screwdriver method Skin mentioned....
GOOD LUCK. B4U

thanks guys. i will try the "jumping spark", either with a screw driver or with two wires. sounds like it will work.

After you get it started go in the bios and set it to start by keyboard key. :)
If its going to be caseless for awhile..
