How do I know if I can watch HD movies on my monitor?

So yeah, essentially I am very confused. I never peak at monitors too much, but I know I need a new one. My question is though, how do I know if my monitor can support HD content? I never really see it advertised (seeing as I don't peak at them too often). Will it just say it?

I think vendors are Ok to say HD if it has true 1080 height resolution. So basically all 1920 x 1080 resolution screens could say they are HD.

Some monitors will advertise HD on the display and some may not. This does not mean the other monitor that doesn;t say HD will not support HD which is 1280 x 720 res or 720P the minimum resolution for HD. The important thing on a monitor is it be HDCP(High Definition Content Protection) compatible.
