How do I format a botched external hdd?

Here's the situation. I just bought an external HDD for my Powerbook and formatted in MSDOS mode via a firewire cable (from the mac). Since it's a 120GB HDD, I went to get some fried chicken while it did it's thing. When I came back, I learned that my brother had yanked the firewire cord in mid-format and somehow mucked it up. So when I plugged it back in, all it does is freeze up the mac. Next I plugged the hdd into my PC and it shows it as USB mass storage device but nothing inside Explorer. There must be a way to format or gain access to the hdd. Visit the ACOM website and got nothing. I need to format it so both a PC and Mac can use it. Can anybody help?

attach to the PC
Start > Run > (type) diskmgmt.msc > RClick Unallocated space Partition and Format
if its not unallocated, then RClick and delete the partition
then repartition and format

in FAT32, you will be limited to 32GB for the partition
just do it at this stage
transfer to the mac and verify its seen
then back to the PC and then repartition & reformat it to the full 120GB with Fdisk
