how do i cut the dragon? what bits for a dremel do i need?

im either gonna cut that or put a piece of acrylic there and etch, but how do i etch?

or should i do this?

First, I would recommend you read up on cutting. Second, I would recommend you go out and buy scrap sheets to practice on. Third, if you need to ask these kinds of questions, you might want to rethink the project in the first place.

There are many resources available to you if you conduct a search. There's a whole lot of talk about etching acrylic around here, and a few articles about Dremeling in the FAQ.

Oh, and FWIW, it's my personal opinion that side windows shouldn't show the drive cages, unless you've done something really special to them.

The dragon window is one thing, but what's the difference if the other window is tiny? My opinion is based on the idea that you're putting in a window because there's neat stuff to look at, so why bother showing the stuff that isn't neat to look at?
 
If ya got the bucks then a laser or water jet will do ya right. My hands not as steady as they used to be so I vote for the laser ;)
 
My idea: If you really want the dragon, cut a large window for the entire side where you want it. Then chemical etch the dragon's silhouette into the top half of the window. Do it so that the dragon itself would be transparent, but the rest of the top part would be a nice frosted look. That way, you dont have to look at the ugly mess that is a PSU.
 
take it to a local machine shop and they can probably crank it out in a short time. The guy I know here just scans the picture in to the pc, and then opens up a cad program and sets the scan as the background and then traces it in the cad program, then feeds it to his little "mill" he made from a dremel and some stepper motors (all controlled via a serial port or parallel port...not sure which). his is only good for wood and plastic though, not heavy duty enough to carve metal.

:EDIT: If you're VERY careful and VERY patient, you can cut that dragon out with the dremel. Might take a few hours though with those small details. But read some faqs on dremelling and casemods.
 
get alot of practice before hand.
before cutting that bottom window, practice doing the dragon, or the hard parts in that section that you are going to cut out.
sure it will be hard, but its certainly not impossible. Ive made a dragon case before for a friend, took 4 hours to do iirc. (a square window and a dragon)
take your time, and save the discs when they get worn down. Those are what you use for the small parts :D
