How did Resident Evil 2 manage to fit on a single Nintendo 64 Cart ?

"Resident Evil 2 on the Nintendo 64 is a port that should have not been possible. The original PlayStation release came on 2 CD's and totaled over 1.2 Gb in size yet somehow the entire game was compressed onto a 64Mb cartridge for the Nintendo 64. In this episode we take a look at how it was achieved."

That's pretty neat. I know gauntlet legends just rendered the FMVs using the game engine, instead of doing as Re2 did here (include downsampled video/audio and upsample for playback). Of course, 80% of people playing are just going to slam on start to skip the FMV anyway. Sorry to everyone who makes FMV for video games.

Amazing optimization. Just goes to show what quality developers can do with limited hardware.

RE2 was also the first game I picked up on launch day and played and beat in one session with no breaks (I think I stayed up til like 3 in the morning to beat it).
