how are these temps?

There has been countless threads about useres temps and what not, but i need to know. Im running a q6600, evga 680i T1, 8800 gtx, all stock. Couple of fans, and my temps on speedfan are..

System: 17c
CPU:47c
AUX:37c
Core 0:35c
Core 1:34c
Core 2:33c
Core 3:33c
After playing crysis for a lil the cpu jumps to about 55-56. let me know if these temps are normal.
 
All stock HSF, but i have the coolermaster m690 case. awesome airflow i guess. So those temps are good? even when they bump up to 56c? Also whats the "AUX" Temp?
 
Aux temp usually pertains to the general temp of your mobo. Or it could be that it's just a disconnected wire and using the same temp as your case temperature. 47c at idle is fairly average for a q6600. You have to remember they come with the same HSF as the dual core series CPU's. And you are working with 2x the amount of cores, which generates much more heat. If you exceed 60c you should be concered. However you should invest in an aftermarket HSF for your precious quad core to get the most life out of it. Doesn't take much dust over standard time to spike those temps.
 
With the Intel Due/Quad CPUs it is important to be spesific about what temperatures one is referring to when talking about the CPU temperature. When people say that "My Q6600 idles at 35 degrees C", what dos that mean? Well it can mean anything since they don't specify which temp or how it was measured or even if it's a real (calibrated - as real as it gets :) temperature.

ezas: There is no way your temperatures are reported correctly by SpeedFan. Your "CPU" temperature is ***always*** lower than the individual cores. Usually it's between 10 and 15 degrees C lower. The core temperatures are just that, the temperature inside (well sort of) each individual core. You can the "CPU" temperature is the temperature of a spot somewhere between the cores. And as I said, that temp will ***always*** be lower than the cores, no matter what SpeedFan or any other monitoring tool is telling you.

So it is important to calibrate your temperatures. Start with the cores, use CoreTemp (make sure you use the latest vesion), that should give you correct temperatures. Now set a offset in SpeedFan so it shows the correct temps for each core (compare with CoreTemp).

Now take a look at the reported CPU temperature. If it's roughly 15 degrees C lower than the hottest core on idle then they're most likely correct. If not, apply a suitable offset value. You can do this in your BIOS settings (if supported), or in your monitoring tool (SpeedFan supports this - I'm not sure about all the others).

Usually (but not always), if your CPU temperature needs an offset value it will be 10 or 15 degrees in either direction. There are some guides out there (on the Internet that is) that will let you calibrate your CPU temp based on the core temps. I am not sure how accurate this will be but it might be worth a try if you really have no idea what is correct and what is not.
