Well this is my first time overclocking, so I'm looking for some pointers and criticism as to what I might be doing wrong. Here's my current setup:

I have a DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra B with an AMD XP 2500+ mobile, with a thermaltake volcano silent boost (P/N: A1889-01). I have a 512mb stick of 2700 Corsair XMS (I will be upgrading this summer to 2 sticks of 3200 XMS when I get some money). Here's how I have it:

FSB of 210
AGP Bus - has not been changed
CPU Ratio of 11 (multiplier I do believe in other circles)
DDR Freq - 175mhz
CPU Voltage - 1.55volts (unchanged)
DIMM Voltage - 2.60volts (unchanged)
Ram is running at 2-3-3-6

current temps are 34 degrees idle, 45 under maximum load.
 
first lock the agp and pci then make shure the ram is at like 2/1 or something then rais the fsb up and the cpu voltage then test if its stable if it is then push the fsb up more
 
Excellent VCORE for 2.3GHz. I run 1.6v at 2.2GHz on my mobile. I disagree with matt's advice, you don't want to run a divider on a NFII chipset motherboard. Your RAM seems to be overclocking fine as it is. Now for a mobile, you should go higher. I mean, a lot of people can do 2.3 on a desktop 2500+. So aim for at least 2.4GHz. Mine takes 1.8v to do that. At the rate you're going, yours can probably do a lower VCORE than mine at that speed. Start by bumping the FSB to at least 218, or up the multi to 11.5 if you don't want to stress your RAM any more. If you up the FSB, I suggest you up the voltage on your RAM as well. If it's still unstable (RAM wise) you may have to lax the timings some (still keep 2 CAS though if you can).

well for the pc2700 right now hes going to want to use a divider for the ram but when he gets the pc3200 he should use a 1/1 divider.
 
How does the divider for the ram hurt performance? Is it just it uses more power, then of course starts getting hotter? I will try all suggestions and post what I get. Thanks for the advice.

Well, the NFII chipset doesn't take too kindly from running a divider. You may end up with more unstable performance than if you overclocked your RAM a bit too high. In order to run more stable at higher speeds, you need to up your RAM voltage. It's kind of amazing that you got to 210 with that RAM at those timings with stock voltage. I suspect that any higher though is going to require more voltage.

Sure enough it started shutting down and rebooting with that. I'll try upping the voltage on the DIMM and CPU next.
 
a) yeah, don't use a divider on NF2
b) Interestingly, you should probably change your timings to 2-3-3-10, for some reason NF2 seems to do better with those timings than 2-3-3-6. I can't find the article right now, but I remember being surprised.
c) Looks like you have plenty of voltage left, try upping it to 1.75 or 1.8 (making sure your temps don't get too high) and up the mult to 11.5 or (if you can) to 12.
 
Use 2-3-3-11, better performance and much more stability on that board. Also, when getting higher fsb, you might want to up that ram voltage if you don't mind voiding the warranty, more voltage = more fsb. Be sure and run prime 95 to test and make sure it is stable.

man, my 2400 takes even more just to run.. its at 1.65 at 3200 right now (i figure if its ok for the stock, its ok for this one)... it tried 1.6, causes reboots, and for 2.4 it takes 1.875 (the nf7-s undervolts by .4, so its really at 1.475... hmm i guess it really is at 1.6 then.. lol, just realized that)

i also just tried cas 2 and the ram aint gonna have it... one long beep after another.. it still pisses me off that i didnt see it said 3338 for the timings when i bought it. so far its at 2.5 3 3 5
 
Looking for my next upgrade would it help more to get rid of my current video card (Radeon 9000) and get a 9800 Pro or do my memory upgrade to 1gb (it'll be corsair XMS 3200)? I'm gonna try upping the voltage on the DIMM and CPU. All of this time I've had it set to Auto. What's the point of upping the voltage to the AGP port?
 
VIDEO CARD upgrade.... 512MB is fine.

granted 1Gb would be better.... but at 512 you wont be hurting

now on your videocard an ATI9000 blows, you want to get an ATI 9800/9700 Pro or better or a Nv 5900xt or better.

dont bother with the mid range 5700/9600.

For a little more you can get in to the high end category. And I would wait at least 3 weeks before buying. By then the 6800's and X800's will be out in full force and the prices on the old high end stuff will come down. You might even be able to get like a 9800XT or 5950, etc.

my suggestions:

* 1 gig of ram makes a HUGE difference. you really, really notice it in farcry, for example.

* get the powercolor 9800SE and softmod it to 9800Pro. they have the best success rates. even if its not successful its no slouch of a card, esp for the price (150, maybe less by now). you want the 256 bit version, make sure its the 256 BIT version for gods sake.

LOL the 128mb one is so nice and cheap though. It's only $150 bucks. The 256mb version is still up around taht $250 area. I kind of figured the bottleneck for my system was the video card, I might wait until the x800xt comes out then the 9800PRO 256 mb one will drop to that magical $199 price range. I might be able to get that ram for 200 in a joint pack. When that happens I'll be selling the 512mb PC2700 Corsair XMS too.

He's not talking about 128mb vs 256mb, he's talking about 256bit vs 128bit... Huge difference. The 128bit versions of the 9800 are absolutely crippled in comparison to the 256bit versions.

EDIT: Oh, and I'll just add that I have my M-2500+ overclocked to 2450mhz (245*10) @ 1.7v... I can push higher but I like to keep the voltages lower.
 
Upgrade your ram to PC3200 (or better). The DFI boards were made for cranking up high FSBs with high voltage.

I personally run my DFI Infinity (no frills version of LanParty) and 2500+M at 240 FSB x 10. 1:1 Ratio. 1.7volts.
 
I never noticed their was a difference between the 128bit and 256bit. Thank you for pointing that out, oh and if I can push this thing up to 240 area I will be getting the ram first. I didn't think I could push it that hard. Do you guys that have it this high have water cooled type systems? Or regular air?

Mine is air...albeit a lot of it.

A new graphics card is a good idea as opposed to more ram. I own both a 9800 Pro(oc to XT) and a 5900XT (oc to 5950U) both are nice, but I find the ATI a bit more stable and runs most games faster. Both nice cards tho, but if I was given sophies choice I'd pick the 9800 Pro. ATI just has better driver support.
 
you have a good overclock already. Its probably nice & stable, you probably could push it a little more, but do you really need to?

A new videocard to fix the only place where you system looks weak.

Your CPU & ram are fine.

Try gaming on your computer and its going to be weak from your low-end videocard. You need to focus on getting a new videocard.
 
Well after doing some testing, I've noticed some things:

1. I've noticed I can't get my FSB any higher then 210 even if I try to increase the vcore.
2. Anytime I push the vcore over 1.55 Prime95 won't run.
3. If I try push the multiplier past 11 Prime95 dies

Any suggestions? Is there a way i can possibly test my power supply? I think that might be a problem. I'm starting to run out of ideas.
 
Try increasing the chipset voltage on the DFI boards.

You should be able to do a LOT better than 210 FSB with a LanParty.
