things just don't seem right, here is my comp

Intel core i7 950 @ 3.06 with freezer 7 pro
asus sabertooth x58
6gb corsair ddr3
gigabyte amd 6870
in a HAF X

everything is at stock speeds and it just seems my BF3 frames are slower than they should be. I think I should be able to run on high right? But it seems like I start to lag. Only getting around 20-30 fps @ 1920x1080

Temps are all in check, around 55c on gfx and 50c on cpu.

any help would be appreciated.
 
BF3 is known to be a hog on GPUs. Even with my highly OC'd GTX 460, I could only get about 45 FPS on High settings. That being said, that does seem a little low. The HardOCP review shows the 6870 getting close to 38.5 FPS on Ultra settings with near everything turned on I believe in the apples to apples and about 59 with ultra settings at 1680x1050 with a number of things turned off.

You might have to drop down your resolution to get the desired FPS. See if you can match up close to these results at that resolution with the settings they used. Also have you installed the latest drivers for your card?
 
You'll need to turn off MSAA if you have it on, and you'll probably need to turn down/off HBAO/SSAO as well. The 6870 is a little underpowered for BF3 at 1080p.
 
Something is definitely off. With a very similar setup, I can't tell you exact frame rates (haven't needed to pay attention), I've been running everything on high 1920x1080 without any hiccups or anything, regardless of what's happening on the screen.

I'm gonna guess it has something to do with your GPU, because 55c on a 6870 under load would be, well, almost remarkable. I've got excellent airflow through my case, and when my GPU is pegged at 95%+ for extended times, the temps usually top out around 80-82C. Then again, the fan never goes above 33% fan speed, so.....

Do you have another box you can try it with? Or maybe a friends box, just to swap the 6870 in and see?

yep youre going to have to turn down a bunch of AA settings & ambient occlusion.

and yeah, start overlocking. lol
