How hot is too hot for a 3.0C 12cap no OC? I've got a zalman and arctic silver on mine and it's doing 45 off the bat and 50 something with some load. I kindof expected better, unless I did something wrong.

Sounds fine, also note that depending on your ambient temps and motherboard, temps will be different (some motherboards overestimate the temp, some under).

I've got a 2.8C 30 cap OC'd to 3.2 with a ThermalRight SLK-947U and it runs 44C at 100% load. My mainboard used to up my temps by about 10C until I did a BIOS update, so you might see if you're running the latest BIOS for your board and see if that gives you some more realistic numbers b/c to me, it sounds like you're running a bit on the warm side for a C series P4.

my 3.0c overclocked to 3.5ghz reaches 71c under load and I dont really worry about it since it dosent throttle or lock or anything. I use 1.65v

I'm not at 71 yet, but I do have a BIOS update that I need to do. Got it at 60 something the other day and I didn't really like it too much.

Under a slight overclock (3.24) my 3.0c hits about 42c under full load. Not overclocked at idle it can get as low as 26c usin a 7000alcu and 6 case fans. I'm usin an Asus mobo so i wouldnt trust the thermal sensor for the life of me. 72c sounds way to high, unless your on an Abit mobo who's sensors are worse than Asus'. 60c seems to be the mark to stay under.

I was thinking I'd get one of those sensor things that they sell from FrozenCPU.com, anyone used these things, and are they any more accurate than the motherboard sensors?

those temps are fine. not the best but ok. im running a 2.4c @ 2.7 and it ran at 45 idle and 52ish load. got my a zalman alcu w/ artic paste and it runs about 3-4c less.

My 3.0c 12cap at 3.5c @ 1.65v runs around 40 at idle, 57 at load (keep in mind this is an abit board). I'm using a Swiftech MCX478 with an Enermax 90mm fan and some good ol' Arctic Silver 5.
