Rig is in my sig (desktop).

I was bored last night and decided I needed to finally play HL2 (I know, right). Everything was going great at first. Jacked all the settings to highest and was playing at 1920x1200. Toward the beginning, when you drop into the red shipping container with the guy and the alien creature, the game maxed out one core of my processor and stuttered past the point of playability.

I tried:

Making sure multi-core rendering was on
Restarting the game
Turning settings down and resolution to 1440x900

NOTE: I can (and have been) play TF2 and L4D2 at max settings with no problems.

Any ideas on what's going on?

My only suggestion is to tell Steam to delete the HL2 game cache and redownload the game.

That or actually turn off multi-core rendering. I have experienced this randomly between the various Source games, and turning off multi-core rendering made the problem go away for me. *Shrug*

Edit: Also try turning off/on V-Sync.

k, i'll give both a shot tonight. thanks for the suggestions.
