I have a 2.8E right now, but aiming for 4Ghz as I hear thats the sweet spot for Prescott's. Realistically, how can I achieve this, hopefully on air?
I'm thinking on getting a 3.4E and then clocking that, but I have been able to get my 2.8E to POST at 3.8, though its running at 1.52v and i'm probably not going to puch it much farther than that.
Right now i'm oc'ed to 3.4 on stock voltages, idle temp at 48C load temp at 60C with a zalman CNPS 9500.
I don't care too much if I shorten its lifespan to a year or two, by then i'll probably be switching to M2 and PCI Express.
Motherboard is a IC7-MAX3, and i've noticed that what I set in the BIOS for CPU voltage is slighty higher than what I see in CPUZ, and in CPUZ the voltage will fluctuate as i'm sitting here watching it. I know i'm 100% stable at 3.4 because i ran two instances of Prime95 for 2 days straight with no errors, though anything higher than 3.5 will boot into desktop but produce Prime95 errors.
So, you think to get it higher, I should pump more juce than the default 1.38v going to the CPU?
Opinions please!
EDIT:
Thinking of removing the IHS on my P4. Opinions on this?
