Hiper Type R Question

Hey all,

I'm using a Hiper Type R (580 watt) to power my Aspire X-Navigator case. One thing I've noticed is that when I connect the fans, the PSU starts to give a noticable hum, almost a whinning like noise. When I unhook some of the fans the noise lessens and If I disconnect all the fans for the case, the noise completely stops.

Does it have to do with voltage? Or wattage? I'm only using a 3800+ (Single, no overclocking), 7600gt, 1 HD, 2 Opticals, 1 floppy, and Asus M2N-E. Is this normal? I used to use an Antec 550 watt PSU before and never had this noise before. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I don't hear the fans, but the noise kinda sounds like humming interference. It's definitely coming from the PSU, but I'm sure I have enough watts for everything. And it when I unplug the fans, the PSU is silent. :(

Okay new development...

After taking off the Hiper Type R and testing the Antec 550, the noise remained. So it isn't the PSU . So now I believe it may be the fans or the motherboard (M2N-E). When I stick pencils in the two rear 80mm fans to stop them from spinning, the electric humming stops. I'm leaning towards the motherboard culprit... although I don't really trust the Aspire (apevia) fans that much either... anyone have any ideas?

if you stopped the fan and it stops making the noise, your fan needs a good blending.

Yes! it was the rear 80 mm fans!

I hooked up a Bluegears 120 mm fan, a Nexus 120 mm fan, and an Arctic Cooling 92 mm fan and none of them added to the humming noise. I can't believe the aspire fans were the noise culprits because when I put my ear up to them, all I could hear was the airflow. The humming noise itself really seemed to come from the PSU or the motherboard. I'm guessing they had bad voltage or somethin. Now I'm off to replacing all five of em. Thanks for the help! It was common sense but the humming/whining was deceiving.

Damn Aspire and their cool-looking-loud-humming fans!
