I have owned my Hiper Type-R 580W PSU for at least two years now (mfg date of June 2005) and recently the voltages have been horrible. For example, the +5 is ~4.50 and the +12 is 10.98-11.10. I purchased this unit off of a member of this forum so I do not have the original proof of purchase/sales receipt. I did email Hiper's RMA support line and was told that it isn't needed and to just send the unit in after I fill out the RMA form, which I completed today. I never heard of a company accepting a RMA request without proof of purchase, but I also don't have much to lose other than shipping expense. Any opinions on the subject? The PSU does have the mfg. date on the warranty sticker on the side of the PSU so perhaps that is why it isn't needed?

POP isnt needed much anymore. all the good companies pretty much just need the item, although some only put the sn on the box, so some need the box.

I see. I know EVGA needs a copy of the receipt and that has been my only recent RMA experience (last one was in the ATI 9800 days). The RMA email states to send only the base unit, so no case/cables. I suppose they go by the date on the PSU if no receipt is given.

Most companies can use a date code on the unit to determine the age of the unit so they know if it's in warranty or not, even without a receipt.

But if you're getting those voltages uses software, there may actually be nothing wrong with that PSU since software is notoriously inaccurate.

It is with software (Everest and the BIOS), but my PC has been experiencing many weird problems since these voltages were reported low (changing RPMs of my fans, lights dimming, computer not powering on then later powers on, etc) so I am quite sure something is wrong with the unit.

Don't have a DMM to confirm those readings or another PSU lying around to do some shotgun troubleshooting?

I had this PSU hooked up to the rig in my sig and it was fine (though the volts were a bit lower than I would've liked). After two-three years I replace it with the Corsair HX520W and put the Hiper in my other computer, which is almost identical except it only has one HDD instead of four, isn't overclocked, and has the 320MB 8800GTS. Again, volts were a bit low but no problems. After a few months it produced the volts in my OP. I gave it two months and no change so I concluded that it is indeed the PSU and that it needs to be RMA'd. I only had two weeks of warranty left so I decided to use it as this is what warranty is for.

Anyways, I shipped it out on the 22nd of May and just got an email stating the old PSU will be replaced and they provided the tracking number for the new PSU. So far I am very pleased with their service. I did email their customer service twice concerning the RMA process and received replies well within 24 hours, which is better than most companies. Just wanted to let people know. :)

Nice, thanks for the report, that makes me happy.
I used a Hiper 580W for a year and sold it to a friend in January.
Its still going strong so hopefully yours was a one off.
I now have their newer 620W PSU and while it makes the case a little warmer, its a solid performer and near 85% efficient.

Glad to hear yours are working fine. Mine was always a little bit (.1-.2) off on the voltages so it may have been somewhat of a dud. Plus, it has seen close to three years of use.

Hiper shipped the package out yesterday afternoon and I received it 10AM today, which is amazing as I never had 1 day shipping from UPS before.

The PSU came in a white box sealed with a plastic film. Inside was the PSU wrapped in plastic and two pieces of foam protecting it further. They included all the little white socket caps, screws, and the booklet even though they only ask for the base unit to be sent in. In the original brown box they also included a nice Hiper tote bag. Best RMA experience I've had and I've dealt with Corsair, EVGA, ATI, etc. :)

Hey sweet, cant wait for my PSU to fail !!
ummm

:D

I'm glad it went so well for you.
