I have 4 2TB HDDs connected to it right now in R6 and while the read times are much improved with the new router I've found that write times over the network are craptastic at best.

Will it improve as more HDDs are attached?
 
Maybe. Do you have write back cache enabled? That is usually disabled on hardware raid if you do not have the BBU. If not this is your problem. Write through cache will have slow writes.

Win 7 Home Premium (waiting for some downloads to finish over the next 2 weeks then will be installing Linux)
Dlink 100mb NIC (Asus 1GB Nic is being RMA'ed due to overheating issues)

It probably does not. By default when you do not have the BBU HW cards (rightfully so) will default to write through since whatever is in the write cache would be lost (corrupting your filesystem) on a crash or power loss. Some cards will make it difficult to turn on this cache however without the write behind cache random write performance becomes less than a single drive with the write behind cache write performance should be greater than a single disk but less than raid 0 for n-1 disks.
 
I have never been a fan of the Highpoint controllers (so know that at the outset). For the price they sell for, you would be far better off getting an Areca 1880i and an HP Expander. That said, increasing spindles will increase performance (though you do hit a point of diminishing returns as the number increases). In any case, you are running a 100Mbit LAN adapter, which will yield you a theoretical 12.5MB/s (~1/4 USB2 speeds) and on a single stream copy you will probably top out at 9-10MB/s.

Well, you haven't told us what the speeds are yet, just that they were craptastic. Next, since you said you are just running the box on a 100Mbit NIC, I told you to expect writes that are about 9-10MB/s (which ARE craptastic, but with what you have right now you shouldn't expect anything better). When you go back to GigE, we can see where the performance goes to.
 
Oops I did forget that didn't I. Write speeds are under 100kbps but read speeds are 4mbps+

That is going from a wireless system to the server which is wired.

Ok wired I get around 9-10MB/s both ways. Hrmm I have the Asus RT-N66U which is suppose to be really good for a wireless/wired network.

I think I am going to try messing with a few things and see if I can improve it.
 
Well, you are getting right on the money what should be expected from wired. Your sever drop in wireless speeds is most probably wireless network related. The N66U is a decent router, so it is either a client wireless problem or a config error somewhere.
 
I am guessing it is the client wireless. Intel Centrino Wireless. Doesn't matter if it is on 2.4 or 5ghz. It just won't go above 100KBs

Ok figured out the problem. QoS on Asus routers is causing the problem. I turned it off and my speeds shot over 6MBs vs less than 100KBs with QoS turned on.

Guess this thread can be closed now. Thanks everyone who tried to help.
