So I recently got a Q6600 G0 stepping, and after a few reseating with the stock fan and heatsink, my cores are still idling at around 50C on the first 2 cores and 45C on the last 2. Every setting is on default. Could it be a issue with the grease that came with the heatsink or maybe I have a bad CPU?

I'm sure this would make a difference, my ambient temperature is around 65F.
 
What brand of thermal grease are you using?

The stuff that is pre applied on some sinks is only good for one use. If you take it off, it should be removed, and new grease applied.

Your temps are not out of the ordinary for a stock sink. They aren't the greatest.

I have a MaxOrb on a Q6600 at 3.2 gig at 1.4 volts. My temps are 38 on 2 cores and 32 on the other 2.

/edit/ BTW, I use AS5 on lapped CPU and HS. When I get reemployed, I am going to get a better HSF.

I think they applied too little. Intel is sending me more grease for free I'm going to see how it goes. But I'm leaning towards Artic Silver 5 with a Tuniq.

good choic,. and you should see better idle temps at around 35C with that setup.
