I have an EVGA 8800GT 512mb video card. When idling on the TF2 main screen, my 8800GT core temps go up to a staggering 105C. It idles at about 80C. I set the Fan to stay at 60% max rpm as any higher and the noise becomes intolerable. When I first got my comp the card would idle at around 55C and max at about 80C. Is my video card fan dying or what? I've tried vacuuming around the fan and used some compressed air, but not that much dust came out.

It will if you don't do something about it soon...those temps are way too high.

You need to open up that card i.e. remove the heatsink, clean it up and re-seat it with some quality thermal grease like Artic Silver 5. If at all you want to, you could buy a better cooler (heatsink) and use that instead.

Deng I was afraid I would have to do something like that. Guess I'll search for some guides.

Optionally you could talk to EVGA about making good on their lifetime warranty. If you remove the heatsink you may void that warranty.

Another option would be to get an ARCTIC COOLING ACCELS1 Rev 2 and the Turbo Module. It is very quiet and also very effective. The only bad part is it doesn't blow hot air out of the case, but if you have a decently cooled case, it won't be a problem.
My g/f used to comment how loud my pc was and after I put the new vga cooler on I asked her what she thought, her response was "Is it even on?" :)

You don't void your warranty with EVGA when you replace your stock fan.

Clean out that fan, increase your case airflow, and/or get a good VGA cooler, like an Accelero S1.

Damn, my heavily OC'ed 8800GT never goes past 75c @ full load while gaming and its passively cooled. (Accelero S1)

The S1's can be had for dirt cheap and are very simple to install. No guides needed.
