I have a GA-K8VT800M and can't get it to recognize my raptor. Checked cables and they are good. This is my first build so I'm stumped.

Advice is to take thee same kind of approach as you would if you were debugging software. First isolate the problem and give yourself a positive control. Try it on another computer, is it the harddrive or the mobo which is the issue? What about the cables? Maybe jumpers not set correctly?

I read instructions for raid install on Gigabytes sight and I hit "tab" during boot up. It brought me to a raid controller screen and the hard drive is being seen on SATA 0 . Started windows xp install and it still doesn't see the drive.

Do you have a floppy with the RAID drivers on it?

You may need to hit f6 when first loading from the windows cdrom to get it to see the drive on the array.

I'm getting ready to take the floppy out of ole faithful upstairs and give it a shot now
by the way........thanks for the reply
I'm goin in

I'm not installing a RAID array. I trying to install one SATA (10k rpm 74gb raptor for the os)and one PATA drive (7200 rpm 250gb diamond max 10) for storage.

You don't need to have an array for it to need the drivers. It just needs to be plugged into a drive interface that the XP CD doesn't recognize.

Well the floppy from my old pc doesn't use molex connectors for power I guess its too old, so I guess I'll have to buy a floppy just to get these drivers in. anyway thanks for your help.
I'm going to drag ass back to the bed :(
