Ok i have a problem that i have kinda posted before but not really fixed entirely.... i dont know any other places to turn. I installed my win xp and all the software for my new drivers yesterday. I encountered a virus when updated windows it went by the filename wuam.exe it was a backdoor trojan. I seem to have deleted it i think. However whenever i load windows i get that beep noice like an excepetion error but no error msg pops up also when i installed mcafee internet suite my computer started to lock up. So i deleted mcafee now. My internet seems to run ok when before it was running kinda slow. So my question is how do i check to see if my system still has a virus and how do i edit my registry to find strings to see if the virus is still there i notice. Also is it worth it to have a virus protection and if so what is the best or should i just get like zone alarm and keep a constant firewall? i dont know what to do all i know is i want my computer to run properly.

Thanks

Go here and download the free trial. Once you install it click the update button. Once all updates are completed (it goes very quickly) Run the program. It rocks.

CA has their AV available for free as well. Comes with rebadged zonealarm. Just google free etrust antivirus.
