Help with my first overclock

Hello everyone. I'm going to try my very first overclock, and i hope that you can give me some help with it. My configuration is the following, and surely doesn't make overclocking particularly easy.

CPU: 2xopteron275
MOBO: Tyan Thunder K8WE s2895
Ram: 4xKingston 1GB DDR400 ECC Registered
GPU:8800 ultra

So, after having read several articles i understood that i can't overclock from the motherboard, or at least not just from it. Cutting it short, here is what i have done:

ECC off in bios
Powernow off in bios
Bus in bios @ 800 (is this the same as putting a 4x multiplier to the bus? i guess so)
Ram @ 333 (this loosens the ram frequency, but i haven't been able to find the traditional divider to set the ram and cpu to work not at 1:1 anymore)
Timings unchanged (on auto)

Then in windows, i put 1.4v with crystalcpuid, cpu multiplier left at 11.
Then slowly raised the bus with clockgen one click at a time.

Cinebench 2007 using 4 cores @ default 2.2 took me 2:10 minutes
Cinebench 2007 using 4 cores @ 2.3 took me 2:05 minutes
Cinebench 2007 using 4 cores @ default 2.4 stucks my machine near completion

Temperatures of the warmest cpu never got over 55 degrees even when at 2.4 (i'm using the boxed coolers).

New data
RAM
FSB:DRAM= CPU/14
Frequency=171

CPU
Core speed=2.405 GHz
Multiplier=11
HTT=218.73

If i try to go a bit ahead it wont end the cinebench...

Do i have to raise the vcore after i raise the fsb? this is what someone suggested me but it makes no sense to me tbh...

If your OC is not stable, then yes try a little bump in voltage. Keyword being little. Keep an eye on your temps too.

I put the HT in the bios at 600 instead of auto, isn't that it?

Maybe try 800 if you can, and manually change your memory timings to something like 3.3.3.8 2t. If this doesn't help I don't know what to tell you. Everything else looks right.

Updates:

- i had no problem setting the bus at 800 (as i could have imagined)

- i had problems setting the timers, if i unchecked auto and manually set them, cpu-z would keep showing a ratio of CPU/11 even if i lowered them from ddr400 to ddr333.

- i simply failed in overvolting. turns out that the way i did it, i only overvolted one cpu (core 1 and 2) but not the other one (core 3 and 4)

i just bought 2x zalman 9700 nt, first time i put them, hope i dont mess and burn the cpus!

any suggestion/thing i need to know before i go into it?

i also still need help with the ram issue

thanks to everyone that will reply

Just make sure you clean off the processors heat spreaders with at least 90% Isopropyl alcohol.

Do the same with your new heatsinks too.

Then apply some thermal compound. Only use a rice sized amount in the middle of the heat spreader. The heatsink will spread it out as you mount it.

Sorry I haven't been able to help you with your OC anymore.

Good Luck

i managed to keep the more relaxed timings (3-3...) that default for a ddr400 setting even when switching to the ddr333 setting (that defaults at 2.5-...)

so this way the ram never gets past the 200 mhz and keeps the relaxed timings, which means that everything is below the ddr400 default configuration, even when i raise the fsb to get the cpus to 2.5 ghz.

to recap:

mobo has fixes
powernow off
ecc off
ddr333 frequency with ddr400 more relaxed timings
cpu max temp is at 49 degrees with the new zalmans 9700 nt
htt never pass 900
overvolt to 1.4

yes at 2.5 during cinebench the pc freezes...
