Hi guys,

I just got a new laptop (IBM X41 Tablet) with the Intel GMA 900. I read that the GMA should have a max memory size of 128 MB. However, when loading dxdiag, it says the max memory is only 96 MB. I tried looking into the BIOS but couldn't find anywhere to set the video memory amount.

I have a total of 1.5GB of ram.

Does anybody know where to set the max memory amount to 128 MB?

Thanks alot

I do believe that it dynamically allocates on the fly, so if it needs more it will allocate up to the maximum amount.

Hmm yes but right now that max is at 96MB. I am trying to bring that up to 128MB.

Unless I'm missing something?

Umm, why? To run a screen at whatever res you are using in 2d will only need somthing like 16MB or at max 32MB of RAM, any more is just wasted and lost from main memory, (which could make better use of it) and in 3d that video card is SLOW no matter how much RAM you give it.

I am running 2560x1024 (1280x1024x2) 32bit color on a 16MB card at work (matrox G400).

You're missing where to check for that. :p

Go to display properties, settings, advanced, Intel tab, graphics properties, information. Look at the "Maximum Graphics Memory:" line and it will say 128MB. Very few applications will use the full 128MB. It's allocated dynamically as needed.

Giving it that extra 32MB will slow your computer down more than anything else.

No, it won't. It's dynamic allocation, so it would have no negative impact on general performance.

Ok this is what it shows when I go under the graphics properties:

Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile Report

Report Date: 10/20/2005
Report Time[hr:mm:ss]: 02:20:56
Driver Version: 6.14.10.4396
Operating System: Windows XP* Professional, Service Pack 2 (5.1.2600)
Default Language: English
DirectX* Version: 9.0

Processor: x86 family 6 Model 13 Stepping 8
Processor Speed: 1496 MHZ
Vendor ID: 8086
Device ID: 2592
Device Revision: 03

It clearly says 96 MB as max and so does dxdiag. So what else am I missing?

and for the people wondering why I need 128, well this laptop runs WoW fine for my purposes. I get about 20-30 fps outside and about 15 in the major cities. I PvP fine as well. Anything above 20 is pretty good to play on. (at least to me)

Perhaps there is a BIOS setting for this? I know you said that you looked, but perhaps the manual might be of help here.
