Hi guys,
This is my first post over at H but a long time reader. I'm a OCN member but always come here for more information and the awesome guides. I have a few problems with my system. I was running 4 x 6134 cpu's and upgraded to 6174's. After installing the cpu's the bios would only show 36 cores and nodes 0-5. If I booted into Ubuntu 10.10 it would report 32 cores only and be really laggy. I asked for advice over at OCN IRC and someone said to me to reset the bios(disconect ps and pull battery). Problem is that the board I have came with the "H" bios and now it wont boot at all. Is the board bricked or is there hope to fix this? I really appreciate any help on this.

Hey, Desert Rat,

Sorry to hear about your problems.
I hope the seller had informed you that with [H] BIOS warranty is virtually
voided and that you made informed purchase.

I genuinely doubt that BIOS (or CMOS reset) is the source of your problems --
the fact of not seeing nodes 7 and 8 suggests issue with CPU4 ("topmost" CPU).

Define: not boot. Do fans spin? Does the board power on (but not POST?)
Does power LED lit up (it's next to JPW4) when you power the board on?

Nonetheless, I'd recommend two things:
1) Resetting CMOS the way mfg intended (shorting two protruding terminals with
power disconnected, per manual)
2) Booting the board only with CPU1 and CPU1's memory

You didn't accidentally flip the battery upside-down when reinstalling, did you?

I knew what I was getting from the seller so I have no issues with that. I do not have any fan activity or get to the bios. Nothing happens. I will try your sugestions and post the results. Thanks a lot.

Just for the record DR, Ubuntu system monitor will only show 32 cores. To check how many are detected within the OS, run FAH and type 'top' in a Terminal. FAH's process will show a number... divide that by 100 and that is how many cores you have (i.e. 4790-4810 = 48, etc)...
I hope you fix this issue. :)

I just followed tear's recomendation and was able to figure it out. I removed all but cpu1 and the memory and performed a proper bios reset. Got in the bios and started installing one cpu at a time but quickly ran into problems with my second cpu,did not show on the bios. Then I removed that cpu and put in another one in the same socket and worked, cpu3 worked too and tried the one that did not worked on cpu socket #4 and did not work either. So that cpu did not worked in 2 diferent sockets but to make sure socket #4 was good I installed an 8 core cpu and it shows on the bios for a total of 44 cores. I will contact the seller and let him know about the cpu and see what happens. Thanks for the help and is always good to talk to the experts.
